HR Procedures, Processes & Systems
Ah, yes, …the dreaded Employee Handbook! OR, is it the invaluable Employee
Handbook? The way you look at this is normally a function of your experience
with the document. Sadly, all too many companies look at these as a book
of rules that usually focus on the word “don’t”. Spirk & Associates has
always subscribed to the concept first introduced by Grote entitled Positive
Discipline. Building upon that foundation, our approach has expanded the
concept to the full range of policies and procedures that subsequently define
a Values-driven culture.
- Do your employees understand the need for an HR policy manual?
- Do your employees value having an HR policy manual, or do they view
it as a bunch of bureaucratic rules?
- Would your current employee handbook withstand legal scrutiny?
- Are your current policies consistent with and support of your published
Values statements?
- Do your current policies and practices support achievement of your
operational Mission?
- Are there any of your policies, procedures, or systems that are
actually inhibiting movement toward your Company Vision?
Spirk & Associates prides ourselves on having an eye for detail and begin
every assignment with an assessment of current manuals, cultural fit, actual
practice vs. intent of policies and procedures (…do people actually follow
what it written and are sanctions equitably enforced), right down to a critique
of the forms that are used by the organization. With an eye toward enhancing
clarity, assuring “fair and consistent” application, and a focus on reducing
liability through either intent, neglect, or by effect, we want to partner
with your business in protecting / enhancing the bottom-line by removing
vulnerability, in areas which can easily by overlooked.
