Organization Analysis, Design & Succession Planning
Analyzing an organization and designing a structure that facilitates achievement
of business goals can be a systematic process. However, many organizations
view this process as either intuitive or overwhelming. As such, if it’s
done at all, it is rarely done well, due to the number of variables that
need to be considered. To effect this analysis, Spirk & Associates recommends
the use of a comprehensive Organization Assessment & Talent Review (OA&TR)
process. Elements of this approach include:
- Do your people-related/organizational structure plans integrate
with and support your business plan?
- Do you have identified potential succession candidates for key roles
in the organization? If so, have these prospects been assessed regarding
their “readiness” to take on these key roles?
- Do your organization plans link with your Performance Management
and Development system?
- Are plans in place to either develop / deal with position incumbents
who have performance issues, or perhaps even good performers who may
be blocking good development positions?
- Have critical employees been identified, who may be vulnerable to
recruitment by competitors or other outside organizations? Have actions
been taken / incentives created to prevent them from considering leaving?
- Have High Potential employees been identified and key actions created
that will accelerate their development? Were they selected based on
clearly established and consistently applied / understood criteria?
- Does your organization track key statistics that enable comparisons
/ trends on a company-wide basis?
Spirk & Associates is ready and willing to assist you with the development
of your OA&TR, as well as selection and implementation of assessment instruments
that focus your development expenditures.
