Organization Development
One of the broadest fields within Human Resources is that of Organization
Development. The title/topic means many things among organizations and practitioners
alike. Simply stated:
- Does your organization structure facilitate achievement
of your business plan? Are there any “sacred cows”/political
commitments that limit organizational success?
- Does your succession planning process encompass the full breadth
of your business entity, or is it strictly related to people? Have
high potential successors for key positions been identified
using clearly defined rationale?
- Do the interfaces among your organization’s teams
facilitate business plan achievement or are “silos”
in the way?
- Has management taken into consideration how employees
feel about their level of involvement and long-term commitment
to the organization? Is it obvious that employees possess the intellectual
capital that makes the organization competitive, and does it show that
management cares about this?
- Do your staffing plans and systems facilitate achievement
of business plans? Are you developing a pipeline that will both sustain
your organization’s talent pool and optimize their
contributions toward achieving your strategy? Is diversity
of employees valued and are hiring efforts focused on achieving even
broader / balanced representation because it provides improved creativity.
- Are your employees properly paid? Are contributions
appropriately recognized? Are employees adequately
challenged?
- Do employees feel that your goal-setting and review processes
are equitably administered? Do they feel that the review
process focuses more on performance enhancement or is this system viewed
as a means of controlling ratings in order to limit raises?
- Is your organization “change resilient” to handle
the inevitable impact this has on all resources within the organization?
